Email is a great tool. It has allowed us to communicate at light speed around the world, at virtually no cost. But have you noticed how much "spam" you've been getting lately? Email advertising is taking the world by storm.
But be on your guard. No all of those ads are legit. In fact, some of them are downright dangerous. More and more emails are circulating these days that look like the real thing. They arrive, looking like they are from your local bank, eBay, or any reputable company. Usually they come with a request to update your personal account details. Inviting your to click on a link, you are conveniently taken to a site that looks legitimate. But beware...you may have just been conned!
Keep this rule of thumb in mind: never click on a link in an email that comes to you out of the blue, regardless of who it is from or how legitimate it looks. Instead of clicking on the link, open your browser and type in the URL manually. And never, NEVER enter personal information in a website unless you are absolutely certain that it is the correct website.
Taking these precautions won't stop the spam, but it might just save your money, your identity, and your reputation!
